GEORGE HOLLENBERG, MD
MEDICAL DIRECTOR
As the founding director of Acupath Laboratories, Inc., Dr. George Hollenberg supervises the analysis of thousands of biopsies each year, utilizing the most cutting-edge technology in histology and immunocytochemistry, as well as the latest advances in computerized report preparation. He is a veteran in the fields of pathology and dermatopathology, with expertise in the areas of dysplastic nevi, melanoma, prostate and gastrointestinal cancer.
Board-certified in dermatopathology, and clinical and anatomic pathology, Dr. Hollenberg boasts visiting fellowships in dermatopathology from New York University Medical Center and Jefferson University Medical Center. After receiving his medical degree from New York Medical College, he completed his residency in clinical pathology at Cornell University Medical Center and in anatomic pathology at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.
Dr. Hollenberg's proficiency in dermatopathology and anatomic and clinical pathology has led him to many prominent positions at diagnostic laboratories and hospitals; he served as a dermatopathologist for Quest Diagnostics and director of Laboratories for HSL Laboratories, Mount Vernon Hospital, and St. Barnabas Hospital.
Moreover, Dr. Hollenberg is currently a consultant in dermatopathology for North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset and an assistant professor in dermatology at Stony Brook University Medical Center. Often contacted by editors for his expertise, Dr. Hollenberg has written dozens of medical articles and has had his work published in various acclaimed medical journals and publications.
OLGA FALKOWSKI, MD
ASSOCIATE MEDICAL DIRECTOR
Dr. Olga Falkowski serves as the associate medical director of Acupath Laboratories, Inc. She is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology.
Prior to joining Acupath, Dr. Falkowski was the attending pathologist at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center. She recently completed an observership at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in genitourinary pathology. She fulfilled a surgical fellowship at Tisch Hospital, at New York University School of Medicine, followed by a gastrointestinal fellowship at Harvard Medical School.
After she received her medical degree from the First Moscow Medical School in Russia, Dr. Falkowski completed a residency in general pathology, there. Subsequently, she fulfilled her residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center, University Hospital of Columbia University.
As part of her pathology work, Dr. Falkowski has served as an assistant professor at New York University School of Medicine, Hofstra University, as well as Albert Einstein College of Medicine, respectively. She is currently a member of the College of American Pathologists and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology. In addition, Dr. Falkowski is a noted author and lecturer.
JOON YIM, MD
STAFF PATHOLOGIST
Board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, Dr. Joon Yim serves as a staff pathologist for Acupath Laboratories, Inc, where he is responsible for the daily sign-out of general surgical cases. Prior to joining Acupath, Dr. Yim served as an attending pathologist and an assistant professor in the Department of Pathology at New York University Medical Center from 2002 to 2006. Previously, Dr. Yim fulfilled fellowships at New York University Medical Center and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Prior to his fellowships, Dr. Yim completed his residency at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center, University Hospital of Columbia University, where he was awarded the title of "Top Resident" for his esteemed work.
Dr. Yim is presently working on research that involves observing cribriform morphology in prostate needle biopsies and analyzing its prevalence in prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PIN) versus prostatic carcinoma.
Dr. Yim received his medical degree at the Los Angeles School of Medicine, University of California. Additionally, he holds positions in various medical organizations, including the American Medical Association, College of American Pathologists, UCLA Medical School Admissions Committee, and Association for Pathology Informatics.
SHERIF IBRAHIM, MD, PHD
CONSULTANT HEMATOPATHOLOGIST
Board-certified in hematopathology, as well as anatomic and clinical pathology, Dr. Sherif Ibrahim serves as a consultant hematopathologist for Acupath Laboratories, Inc. In addition to his work at Acupath, he is currently the director of the Hematopathology and Molecular Pathology section at New York University School of Medicine, Department of Pathology.
Instrumental in the development of the JAK2 assay, Dr. Ibrahim has received great recognition for his work. After completing his residency at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, Dr. Ibrahim fulfilled a hematopathology fellowship at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas in Houston. There, he was awarded an institutional grant to study the mechanisms involved in T-cell anergy in cases of B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Previously, Dr. Ibrahim was named an immunopathology fellow at the highly-esteemed Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
He received his medical degree from the Al-Azhar University School of Medicine in Cairo, Egypt. Additionally, Dr. Ibrahim has published dozens of scientific articles and abstracts on the subject of hematopathology, and anatomic and clinical pathology.
ZSUZSANNA VEGH-GOYARTS, PHD
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF FLOW CYTOMETRY
With ample experience in the field of tumor biology and immunology, Dr. Zsuzsanna Vegh-Goyarts serves as the assistant director of the flow cytometry department. Prior to Acupath, she worked as an assistant professor in immunology research at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook and served as a consulting assistant director of flow cytometry at Enzo Clinical Laboratories, Inc. She spent her postdoctoral years in prestigious research institutes, including the Immunology Department of Albert Einstein College of Medicine, NY and Tumor Biology Department of the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.
Dr. Vegh-Goyarts’ research has appeared in an extensive list of peer reviewed publications and various scientific journals, including Cancer Research, Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy, Molecular Immunology and Cellular Immunology.
In addition, she currently holds a Certificate of Qualification in Oncology-Sera and Soluble Tumor Markers, Diagnostic Immunology and all four areas of Cellular Immunology from the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH). Dr. Vegh-Goyarts received her Ph.D. in Medical Science and Immunology in Budapest, Hungary.
